GameStop Reaches $4.5M Settlement Over Facebook Privacy Breach
GameStop Corp. has agreed to a $4.5 million class-action settlement after facing allegations of sharing customer data with Meta Platforms Inc. without consent. The lawsuit, filed in 2023, accused the retailer of using Facebook's tracking pixel to collect and transmit personal information from online shoppers between 2020 and 2025.
Eligible customers may receive cash payouts or store vouchers as part of the resolution. GameStop's stock dipped 2.38% following the news, continuing a 22.51% monthly decline despite maintaining a 1.37% year-over-year gain.
The case highlights growing scrutiny of corporate data practices as privacy regulations tighten globally. For cryptocurrency investors, such developments underscore the importance of decentralized data solutions in Web3 ecosystems.
